Monogram: E

Often the best way to make a new monogram from a combination of designs that are part of different monogram sets is to pick an element or detail that you like and look for similar or compatible elements.

The starting point for this one was the letter E from our Baroque Monogram Set 4. It is a satin stitch letter with angular details - open in the center with the space filled with a row of raised candlewick stitches.

This single letter monogram could use a border or bracket of some type to give it a more formal and complete look. One of the brackets from Monogram Flourishes Set 3 (Year 1924) has similar satin stitch elements, and a single candlewick "dot" along with a slightly smaller wing needle element. We placed one of these on the left, then created a mirror copy and placed it on the right. Subtle variations of thread color provide additional interest.

The overall size is 3 1/2" (89mm) tall by 4 1/8" (106mm) wide.

How we made these monograms

Embroidery software programs make it easy to delete elements, copy and paste elements from other designs, resize different aspects, and merge elements together into one new design. Each program is a bit different in how the Edit functions are managed. Once you have learned to use yours, creating new monograms from other monogram parts is creative and fun. Experiment with different arrangements and colors.
